The Semipalatinsk�State Medical Academy (SSMA) is a higher educational institution preparing the highly skilled experts: Therapists, Surgeons, Gynecologists and Pediatrics. It is one of large higher educational Academies in East Kazakh SSR. It was organized in 1953 in a form of one medical faculty. At the very first ,300 students were accepted. Pediatric faculty was opened in 1963, which had a task : The preparation of the children's doctors for children's medical and preventive establishments. Since 1972 the institute began to conduct reception in the Preparation Faculty.
During the existence the institute has prepared more than 8000 doctors, who work in many areas of their native land.� Our graduates are accepted in all areas of kazakhstan, All�independent states of Russia, Russia,�USA, UK, Saudan, Iran, Pakistan and�in almost all countries of the world.� Many from them became the chiefs of local, regional and urban�establishments.

Our graduates are at the higher grades at official posts and are awarded with many governmental awards.Many graduates have returned to native Academy for pedagogical and scientific work( senior lecturers, senior scientific employees and assistants of faculties etc.) Now in institute in the two faculties (medical and Pediatric) and preparatory branch are studying more than 3.320 students. They are divided in 44 faculties. In these faculties 360 workers are working hard. Among them one deserved figure is 18 doctors of sciences and professors, 150 candidates of sciences and senior lecturers. All of them have a large authority and respect among the students and the population of city Areas. More than 40% of workers in the academy are the graduates of this academy.
The Academy is continuously growing. The groups of the students of the first year are constantly increased. If in 1953 the reception on the first year was 300 students, in 1980 it became 575 and now it is about 800 students. With each year the material base of institute is improved. Only for the last year more than 25 thousand tenge were acquired of the educational equipment for the sum.The institute has 5 educational�hospitals,�7 lecture halls, 6 hostel, where 1790 students live.
In successes and achievements of our institute the huge role plays the constant care of the government. The state grants are received. The students, studying hard are awarded with the scholarship by Government.
